Support YOUR independent radio…WRIR is yours, whether you call RVA home or not.

If you value independent media and voices, anywhere, then this is your chance to not only be counted, but to make your voice count by adding it the many that already rightfully see WRIR as a Richmond institution and leader in community radio. Musicheads, if you’ve tuned into one show and been turned on by one song, then you know full well the value of that that…and where it can lead. We don’t let you go down the rabbit hole alone; we’re right there with you. But we can’t do it alone…and we certainly don’t want to.

There are various levels to choose from when making your donation—your statement—but ‘pay what you want’ works just as well. It works for many of the insanely talented artists that I’ve had the pleasure to spin, get to know and call friends, and the pay-off as well as the return is just as gratifying.

And crucial.

There will be 3 room of entertainment, djs, comedy, spoken word at more.  A $10 Donation at the door benefits WRIR and inclues access to all entertainment, hors d’oeuvres and birthday cake!  Come to Broad Street for First Fridays and help us celebrate 7 years of Richmond Independent Radio.

Get a jump on the action at the party…because the WRIR Spring Fund Drive kicks off Friday, March 2, bringing all the goods you expect, and of course deserve. WRIR is all volunteer run and your support is what keeps the mighty ship afloat. Donations are taken year ’round, but if you need a date, then this is the time. If you’ve dug the show, even been spun on it and by it, online or via podcast, please consider a donation of any amount to WRIR, Radio for the Rest of Us.

Live at WRIR Volume 1

WRIR‘s Live at WRIR Volume 1 makes its debut for the Summer Fund Drive 2011. A long road, but a worthwhile and rewarding one to say the least, Live at WRIR is the result of the hard work of the bands, and the mighty volunteers at WRIR. It was a blast to be part of this and help out with the design and to have the opportunity to work with some truly stellar folks up close and personal. Truly a community effort, Live at WRIR is what WRIR is all about. You can learn more about the Fund Drive and Live at WRIR right here. 

WRIR is also hosting a CD release party at Bogart’s in the Fan at the beginning of the Fund Drive…

Since we first began broadcasting in 2005, WRIR 97.3fm Richmond Independent Radio has invited musicians into our studios to perform on the air. On September 17th, WRIR will release a compilation of these exclusive live performances by international and local artists from the past 6 years. Live at WRIR Volume 1 is a limited edition CD available exclusively during WRIR’s 2011 Summer Fund Drive.

To celebrate its release, WRIR will host a party at Bogart’s in the Fan, featuring live sets from:

Moossa

WEEKDAY BOARD OPERATOR

Weekday Board Operators guide the listener through the day’s talk programs. This is your opportunity to become skilled being on air while engineering the station’s many weekday news programs. You must commit to a regular shift. Internship credit available.

SKILLS: able to multi-task without being easily flustered, good speaking voice, can read well, comfortable working with computers and audio equipment, reliable and dependable

TRAINING: you will train with an experienced WRIR board operator for a few hours over 2-3 weeks

TIME: you must be regularly available for a board op shift. Shifts are: 8-10a,10a-2p,2-5p. You can not split shifts. You must volunteer during these set times. Some board ops volunteer each week, others are on air every other week while some just volunteer as a substitute.

IMMEDIATE OPENINGS for Mondays 8a-10a or 10a-2p, Tuesdays 8a-10a or 10a-1p, Fridays 8a-10a or 10a-1p
