Portugal’s Beautify Junkyards give a taster of their full-length due later this year via another limited edition Fruits de Mer release. And a beautiful corker it is…Beautify Junkyards take on Nick Drake’s From The Morning and Os Mutantes’ Fuga No. 2. A daunting endeavor that they tackle admirably. From The Morning, recorded in a field, adds some whiffs of electronics to Drake’s song creating a breezy rendition that does both Drake and Beautify Junkyards justice. It’s a delicate, luminous piece of ethereal fresh air that is, in my opinion, done one better by Fuga No. 2. A thoroughly gorgeous take, blending electronics and some tropicalia until it absolutely soars from a buzzing morning to a fluttering curtain of stars. Fitting tributes both that do nothing to sully either originator’s reputations and, if anything, polish Beautify Junkyards’ to a shimmering sheen. Available only from Fruits de Mer August 15th in a run of 800.

"This show is 110% … one of the most consistently awesome programs we have come across."
The Sunrise Ocean Bender sets sail every Monday morning, 1 – 3 a.m. on WRIR lp 97.3 FM, to find something for your ears, and something for your head … From psych to prog to pop and whatever tributary we can find on the way … and right back around again. There might be a map, but the destination is up for grabs. If it all goes right, we may just get lost. Meet me at the muster station … it might be a long week.
