Mechaddoar (Christian Zinke) drop three releases of droning shape-shifting psych…Oan, Zwoa and Driest. If there’s a concept buried and elevated in here, it’s freely up to the listener to find it, or better yet, create it. Mechaddoar create an amorphous bubbling of sounds, wide swaths of sonics that swirl around each other leaving their mark with lots of open canvas in the spaces between. There’s cause with mission in the ‘trilogy’, but the open-ended nature and undefined destinations make them both sweetly elusive and evocative. All three releases arrive from ’96-’98 when Zinke armed himself with guitars, bongos, an organ, paper boxes and a myriad other ‘little things’ for percussion and ‘just pressed record and let it go….” That lack of strict formula and boundary give Mechaddoar’s outings a circular no beginning/no end character that offers multiple entry points and readings in equal measure. Parts are slightly unsettling in their loopy disorientation, but have an opiate pull and lull that draws you in when you’re thinking you’re on your way out…or the other way around. With the appeal of indeterminate edges heavy, and deceptive, it’s more than likely both at the same time. Or not…press play and let it go…
"This show is 110% … one of the most consistently awesome programs we have come across."
The Sunrise Ocean Bender sets sail every Monday morning, 1 – 3 a.m. on WRIR lp 97.3 FM, to find something for your ears, and something for your head … From psych to prog to pop and whatever tributary we can find on the way … and right back around again. There might be a map, but the destination is up for grabs. If it all goes right, we may just get lost. Meet me at the muster station … it might be a long week.
