Gothenburg’s ETT ROP PÅ HJÄLP (A Cry for Help) take a jones for 70s laced rock mixed with some whiffs of psychedelia and some unexpected turns to whip up their debut on Transubstans. Hur Svårt Kan Det Vara? starts with a blues rock thump, but cuts like Ärendet put some twists on it, opening it up to some almost funky like breaks and a looser approach. Certain gaggles of myopic westerners will balk at ETT ROP PÅ HJÄLP singing in their native tongue, seeing it as some kind of barrier, but once you get into the cuts and where they’re coming from, I think you can make a guess as to what they’re going on about…some things are universal I’m told…and don’t go out of style. If you had to limited their speech, you could lump them in with stoner rock, but there’s more going on than only that, just as there was back in the day than most will admit. Cuts like Följ Mitt Liv or Tvål & Alkoholhit the blues/hard rock nail straight on, but the detouring Vänförfrågan and Ärendet tip their hat to more going on under the hood.
