James Blackshaw :: Holly E.P.

London guitarist James Blackshaw‘s Holly E.P. may be only two cuts, but Holly and Boo, Forever are packed with enough feeling, atmosphere and Blackshaw’s prowess to fill most full lengths. Sure to appeal to fans of John Fahey, Glenn Jones, et al., Holly E.P. is not only another showcase for Blackshaw’s guitar mastery and composition, but is also an ephemeral escape that finds much of its heft in its richness of content over pure weight. Both tracks clock in at good length letting the languid exursions run their natural course. And natural is the key here…from a purely technical standpoint to the organic flow of the compostions. Whether you’re looking for out-and out-dazzling wizardy or simply elevated transport, Blackshaw’s Holly E.P. fits the bill, finding a lilting permanence in what may seem deceptively transient.
